Coin of Herod Agrippa II, 81-96 CE

Coin_of_Herod_Agrippa_II

The name of Herod the Great, ruler of Judea from 37 to 4 B.C.E., appears on a bronze coin minted in Samaria (top) during the third year of his reign. Encircling a tripod of Apollo is the legend- “of Herod.” His great grandson, Herod Agrippa II (ruled 56–95 C.E.), is known in Acts as King Agrippa; the name “Agrippa” can clearly be seen in Greek on the second line of the inscription on a coin (bottom) struck under the Roman emperor Domitian (ruled 81–96 C.E.).
