Letter from Ben-Gurion to Chaim Halperin, Mar. 29, 1955.

Ben Gurion Letter

Translation:

“I read your letter and I do not accept the assumption that all existing national treasures in our country have been discovered or are already known.  I do not see myself as a researcher although I explore for myself from time to time subjects that I have interest in or I am asked about.  Many interpretations were written for the Book of Joshua; and nobody underestimates their value.  But those interpretations pale in comparison to the new interpretation given this book during the battles of the War of Independence which sheds a bright light on our past as we renew our independence.  Only a people who lives in its own nation will be able to know, understand and discover its hidden treasures.”
