“… Whatever American sentiment may be, we run the grave risk, if we embark on a policy of partition, of losing to America the pre-eminent place we have always held, and which in our own strategic interests, including oil, we ought to continue to hold, in the Arab world. There is no doubt in my mind that the Americans have thoughts of usurping that place, beginning with Saudi Arabia…”
