Silver coin (miliaresion) of Theophilus, stray find from the Lower City of Amorium, Turkey.
Theophilos was Byzantine emperor from 829 to 842 CE and the second ruler of the Amorian dynasty. He was an energetic ruler known for supporting learning, administration and building projects, but his reign was also marked by repeated military conflict with the Abbasid Caliphate.
