Appeals for the United States to lift the embargo on arms for Israel and to impose sanctions against the Arab nations were sent yesterday to President Truman by Rabbi Irving Miller, chairman of the executive committee of the American Jewish Congress, and Frank Goldman, president of B’nai B’rith.

In a message to the President and Secretary of State George C. Marshall, Rabbi Miller demanded that the United States take a “forthright stand” by granting de jure recognition to the Israeli government. He urged the government to brand the Arab states “aggressors and violators of the will of the United Nations.”

Mr. Goldman said that the action of the Arab armies had reached “a stage of intolerable gravity and extent.” He urged the United States to take the lead in the United Nations Security Council in obtaining sanctions against the Arabs.
