The Defense Ministers of the six-nation Gulf Cooperation Council — Saudi Arabia, Kuwait, the United Arab Emirates, Bahrain, Qatar and Oman — have agreed to a joint defense system based on Saudi Arabia’s AWACS planes supplied by the United States, according to Kuwaiti press reports.
The reports also said that the six Arab ministers, who held their meeting this week in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia, also adopted resolutions calling for establishing a joint rapid deployment force, setting up a council arms-making industry to replace one founded by Egypt, and coordinating military purchases by member states.
