The Ashkenazi rabbi of Jerusalem is Kalamn Kalonymas of Brisk. From his name it can be learned that he was a descendent of the famous Kalonnymus family, who were invited by the Frankish kings to move from Italy to Germany from which the Ashkenazi Jews emerge in the 9th Century.
