Descent to Egypt

Genesis 37-50 describes the journey and settlement in Egypt of Jacob and his children.

Joseph sold by his brothers

When the Midianite traders passed by, they pulled Joseph up out of the pit. They sold Joseph for twenty pieces of silver to the Ishmaelites, who brought Joseph to Egypt.

God tells Jacob to go down to Egypt

And God spoke to Israel… “I am God, the God of your father. Fear not to go down into Egypt; for I will make of you a great nation. I will go down with you into Egypt; and I will also surely bring you up again.”
