November 1948 Arab Refugees

Arab RefugeesThe problem of the Palestine refugees has been on the agenda of the United Nations since the autumn of 1948. In November 1948 the General Assembly adopted a resolution setting up the “UN Relief for Palestine Refugees” (UNRPR) for the purpose of organizing and coordinating relief activities. Relief was actually provided by three agencies operating under the auspices of UNRPR: the International Committee of the Red Cross, the League of Red Cross Societies and the American Friends Service Committee. An aggregate amount of over $39 million was spent from December 1948 to April 1950 in providing food, clothing, shelter, medical services and education.
