March 8, 1949 Israel Offers Peace
The Prime Minister of Israel, addressing the Israeli Parliament, set forth among the principles of the new State that
“We shall spare no effort or opportunity to secure peace with our neighbors base on honor and security.”
One of the planks of Israel’s foreign policy then announced was
“a striving toward a Jewish-Arab covenant (economic, social and political cooperation with the neighboring countries) within the framework of the U.N.”
