In November of that year, all the Jews throughout England were arrested on a single day and imprisoned in London for clipping the king’s coinage. Many Christians were accused by Jews of taking part, particularly some of the more prominent citizens of London.

For this alleged offense, 280 Jews of both sexes were hanged in London, while a great number were hanged in other English cities. The king received an immense sum of money for the release of the Christians, although some Christians were also sentenced to hanging.
