Let it be known to everyone that I, Raymond, Count of Barcelona, Prince of Aragon and Marquis of Tortosa, give to you, all the Jews of Tortosa and all your descendants, as your own hereditary possession, that place in Tortosa called the Shipyard, together with the seventeen towers standing around it, for the construction and building of sixty dwellings.

I give you the Shipyard with the aforesaid towers, as it is enclosed and bounded by those seventeen towers and extends as far as the River Ebro, on the condition that you establish, build and inhabit sixty dwellings there. You shall remain there for all time, safe and unharmed, with all your goods and possessions.

I also give you the entire island called Abnabicorta, with all its entrances and exits, together with the gardens situated within it: one garden belonging to Salvo de Abnalihil, another belonging to Ali Abenhozani, another to Abengamesto, another to Mahomat Adogaiz and another to Avinxanzo.

Furthermore, I give you the two shares that I possess in the estate of Algaceles, including its fields, gardens and everything belonging to it.

I also add four estates that have no houses. The first is the estate of Abenxen at Tivenys, producing thirty quintals from the grape harvest, six measures of oil and six quintals of figs. The second is the estate of Jucepf Abnarrahavi, which has a vineyard producing thirty quintals of grapes and three quintals of oil. The third belonged to Alubachar Alihiara and has land at Aldover with a sowing capacity of two quarteres. The fourth belonged to Ali Aligisauter and has at Xerta twenty measures of oil and land with a sowing capacity of four and one-half quarteres.

I give you all these things so that you may hold and possess them freely and completely as your inheritance. You shall remain and live securely and peacefully in the Shipyard with all your possessions for all time.

If additional Jews come to settle, I shall give them houses in which to live and establish themselves.

After you have been settled there continuously for four years, you shall not owe any service, customary payment or other due to me, to any lord of Tortosa or to the bailiff, except whatever you freely choose to give. Neither I, nor any lord of Tortosa nor any bailiff shall demand such things from you.

No Muslim shall exercise any jurisdiction or authority over you.

I also grant that you shall possess the good laws, customs and usages enjoyed by the Jews of Barcelona concerning sureties, legal attachments, pleas, testimony and all the other favorable customs enjoyed by the Jews of Barcelona.

I give and firmly confirm to you everything written above.

This charter was issued on the tenth day before the Kalends of January, in the thirteenth year of the reign of Louis the Younger.
