The believer said:

“The Jews raise their sons from childhood until adulthood in the study of the Torah. If a father hears an obscene expression from his son’s mouth, he strikes and disciplines him so that such words won’t again be heard upon his lips. He accustoms him to pray every day, and if he hears his son utter an oath, he prevents him from doing so.

“Their daughters likewise behave modestly. They aren’t seen outside or found behaving licentiously like the daughters of the gentiles, who go out to the street corners everywhere, although their religion warns them against this.

“Shouldn’t you be ashamed to claim that you are a virtuous people when you regularly commit all these transgressions publicly and do nothing to prevent them? Even offenses that seem light are like spiders’ webs: when enough of them cover the windows of a house, they shut out the light. In the same way, all these transgressions shut the light away from you.”
