August 17, 1951 Egyptian newspaper, Musawwar, quotes Faris el-Khouri

The Egyptian newspaper, Musawwar, quoted Faris el-Khouri, former Syrian representative in the Security Council of the United Nations as saying:

“There is only one place where we can oppose Israel and that is Palestine, and there is only one way in which we can crush her and that is by the force of arms.  Forty million Arabs have the power to throw one million Jews into the sea.  They can do it if they only will it, close their ranks, and begin to fight.  This is the only chance to heal the wound inflicted on our hearts by the disaster of Palestine.”

The Syrian newspaper, El-Ayyam, quoted Faris el-Khouri, as proposing the encirclement of Israel with a view to a military blow by the encircling powers.

THE ANNEXATION OF JORDAN TO IRAQ IS INEVITABLE … I SUPPORT THE UNION OF ANY ARAB STATES AS LONG AS THE FOREIGN DANGER PERSISTS, THE SOURCE OF WHICH IS ISRAEL, WHICH HAS DRIVEN A WEDGE IN THE HEART OF THE ARAB WORLD.  THEREFORE IT IS ESSENTIAL THAT THE JEWS SHOULD BE SURROUNDED FROM EVERY SIDE BY STRONG STATES IN ORDER TO FOIL THEIR AIMS AND THOSE OF OTHER STATES.  THIS CAN BE DONE ONLY IF WE ENLARGE THE TERRITORY OF IRAQ SO THAT SHE BORDERS ON ISRAEL, AND THEN AROUSE HER MILITARY ENTHUSIASM… THE JEWS WILL BE IN DESPERATE SITUATION WHEN THEY WILL FACE EGYPT IN THE SOUTH, SYRIA AND LEBANON AND IRAQ-JORDAN IN THE EAST…”
