April 18, 1920 San Remo Conference

British Mandate Palestine 1920The San Remo Conference outlined the Peace Treaty with Turkey by dividing the former Ottoman Empire.

“The mandatory (e.g. Great Britain) will be responsible for putting into effect the declaration (e.g. Balfour) originally made on the 2nd November, 1917, by the British government and adopted by the other allied powers in favour of the establishment in Palestine of a national home for the Jewish people, it being clearly understood that nothing shall be done that may prejudice the civil and religious rights of existing on-Jewish communities in Palestine or the rights and political status enjoyed by Jews in any other country.”
