Rujm Sfar Inscription, 7th-8th century

Stone found at RujmRujm Sfar Inscription

One Muslim expressed his belief on this stone found at the Byzantine fortress of Rujm Sfar. Its seventh- or early-eighth-century script reads- “I, Yusuf ibn Zubayd al-Ayli, do not associate anything with Allah.” Like the inscriptions decorating the Dome of the Rock, these statements were meant to exalt the singleness of God and criticize the heresy that Muslims perceived in the Christian doctrines of the trinity of God and the divinity of Jesus.
