JERUSALEM, Saturday, June 26 (AP)-The name of the Jewish commander who directed the defense of Jerusalem during the 28-day Arab siege was disclosed today. He is Col David Shaltiel, a German.

The 45-year-old Hamburg-born Zionist came to Palestine in 1923. During World War II he served in the French Army.

Married, he lives in Tel Aviv. His opposite number in the Jerusalem siebe was Maj Abdullah El Tell.
