The Bir Zeit University near Ramallah on the West Bank will reopen tomorrow after having been closed for two months because of political disturbances on the campus and the stoning of Israeli military vehicles in the town.
However, six members of the Bir Zeit student council will be confined to their homes and not allowed to return to the university. Their confinement is one of a series of measures taken to ensure that no disturbances will reoccur on the politically active campus. Dr. Hanna Nasser, the former rector of the university, was deported several years ago and is now a member of the Palestinian National Council.
Dr. Gabi Baramky, the vice rector, said today that he did not expect any further disturbances on the campus. He said the university was reopening unconditionally with the expiration of the closure order.
