Two Jewish Refugee Ships Clear Istanbul, Dec. 31, 1947

ISTANBUL, Turkey, Dec. 30 (AP)—Two cargo ships with nearly 12,000 Palestine-bound European Jews were reported tonight to have moved cautiously out into the Aegean sea after crossing through the Dardanelles from Istanbul.

The ships, the Pan York and Pan Crescent, were cleared here Sunday after their arrival from Burgas, Bulgaria.

Some informants said the ships might sneak along the coastline of Turkey and Syria toward Palestine rather than get out in the open seas where the British are waiting.
