October 6 – 24, 1973 The Yom Kippur War

The Yom Kippur War. Egypt and Syria launch a surprise attack on Israel and Israel finds itself in grave danger. It quickly rallies, however capturing large areas of Egypt and Syria. Jews throughout the world come to Israel’s aid.

During and after the war, 5,000 young volunteers arrive in Israel from Jewish communities around the world in an operation organized by the Youth and Hechalutz Department of the Jewish Agency. In an emergency Keren Hayesod campaign conducted between October and the year’s end, 300 million dollars are raised.
