October 25, 1919, The Shame of Winston Churchill

churchill“On October 25, 1919, Churchill wrote a memorandum for the cabinet proposing that the Ottoman Empire should not be divided among the victorious powers, but preserved intact, and placed under the authority of the League of Nations.  Such a plan would bring an end to the British Mandate in Palestine, and would lead to the abandonment of the Balfour Declaration pledge of a Jewish National Home.

As to Palestine, Churchill wrote: ‘Lastly, there are the Jews, whom we are pledged to introduce into Palestine and who take it for granted that the local population will be cleared out to suit their convenience.’ ”
