June 25, 1994 State of Israel

Abdel-Bari Atwan: “I know you are opposed to the Oslo agreements, but always remember what I tell you.  The day will come when you will see the Jews fleeing in their thousands from Palestine.  I won’t show you this in my lifetime, but you will certainly see it in yours, and the Oslo Accords will help this to happen.

Atwan relates that Arafat told him all this in an off-the-record conversation held in Tunis at the end of June 1994.  That was only days before Arafat arrived in the Gaza Strip in accordance with the Oslo agreement – an arrival which was supposed to herald a new age in Israeli-Palestinian relations.
