July 30, 1980 The Knesset passes The Jerusalem Law

The Knesset passes The Jerusalem Law, which declared “complete and united Jerusalem” to be the eternal capital of Israel.

There are protests throughout the world. In August, the UN Security Council calls upon all those with diplomatic missions in Jerusalem to withdraw them from the Holy City.

Most countries comply and move their embassies to Tel Aviv.
