January 9, 1956 Prime Minister Nuri of Iraq

“Iraq is…receiving the latest types of military equipment through purchases from our allies and through the United States military assistance…every gun, plane or tank received by Iraq will contribute to solving the Palestine problem in the interests of the Arab states.  The main problem of the Arabs is to solve the Palestine question…we lost the Palestine war not because we were unable morally to win but because we did not have sufficient arms.  This is not what we intend to do now and in the future.”
