January 2, 1965 Fatah Raid

On the night of January 2, 1965, a Fatah squad crossed the border and planted an explosive charge next to the National Water Carrier in the Galilee. The charge was discovered and defused before it could explode. On its way back the squad was intercepted by a Jordanian patrol. The leader was shot dead and the other members were arrested. Such was the fate of the first raid against Israel by Fatah, or rather by al-Assifa (meaning “the storm”), Fatah’s military wing.
