January 1, 1948 Illegal Immigrants

A striking example of this was the charge with the British Foreign Office has allowed to be brought against the Jews in connection with the arrival in Palestine on January 2 of the Pan York and Pan Crescent, two ships which said from Rumania at the end of December carrying unauthorized Jewish immigrants. The British Foreign Office first permitted Mr. Herbert L. Matthews of The New York Times to charge that among the 15,000 immigrants were “many Communist agents, according to official British sources.”
