Conversion of the Church of Ascension, 1187

The Church of the Ascension was built in the fourth century on the Mount of Olives and believed to be located at the place where Jesus ascended to heaven. The Crusaders rebuilt the church as an octagon and fortified it.

In 1187, Saladin converted it into a mosque, and it remains so until today.
