August 1948 Jewish Refugees – Egypt

1949 Jewish Refugees from Arab Countries3,000 Jews, In Egypt suspected of Zionist sympathies, were thrown into jail and their property placed under public administration.

The Jews of Cairo suffered a pogrom.  Two hundred and fifty persons were killed and wounded.  Egyptian authorities tried to place the blame on the Jews themselves.

IMPARTIAL OBSERVERS ESTIMATED THAT SOME 500 PERSONS WERE EITHER KILLED OR DANGEROUSLY WOUNDED DURING JULY AND AUGUST 1948.
