August 18, 1952 Israel Offers Peace

A month after the overthrow of King Farouk of Egypt, Israel’s Prime Minister told the Parliament:

“Israel wishes to see Egypt free, independent, progressive.  We have no enmity against Egypt … We have never sought to exploit Egypt’s difficulties with a great power by attacking her or taking revenge upon her, as she did upon the establishment of our State.”
