West Berlin Jewish Leaders Concerned about Anti-semitism In Poland, JTA, Jan. 6, 1982.

AntisemitismJewish leaders in West Berlin are considering an appeal to the West German government to use its contacts with Polish authorities to stop the anti-Semitic campaign in that country. The chairman of the community, Heinz Galinski, told the Jewish Telegraphic Agency he was aware that West Germany could possibly do more than other Western governments.

West Germany was the only country in the West to have established high level contacts with Polish officials after the military takeover in Warsaw. In an effort to assure West German interests and to keep detente alive. Chancellor Helmut Schmidt has had an exchange of letters with the Warsaw regime.

Polish Jewish families currently living in West Berlin met today at the Jewish community to discuss the situation. Most of them apparently want to go back to Poland to be with their relatives.
