Samuel be Judah he Hasid, MS Paris, BN 850, fol. 47b

Jewish Mysticism
My teacher [i.e., Judah the Pious] told me that once he and his father [Samuel] were in the synagogue, and there was a plate full of oil and water placed before them. The sun shone on that plate and a splendor, unlike any other, emerged from it. His father said to him, “Son, consider that splendor, for such was the matter of the splendor of the electrum.”

Translated by Elliot Wolfson in Through a Speculum that Shines- Vision and Imagination in Medieval Jewish Mysticism, Princeton- Princeton University Press, 1994.
