December 4, 1947 Israel Offers Peace

Haganah“To our Arab neighbors:

The Jewish Hagana organization appeals to you for peace and calm, but at the same time we also warn you. For two days peace has been disturbed by groups of indicted Arabs shooting and killing and setting fire to various places.  We know that the Arab community as a whole does not desire the abandonment of law and order, but apparently the influence of provocateurs has grown.  We have restrained ourselves up to now, because we want peace, neighborly relations, and to work quietly, and because we are interested in the good of the country.  We appeal to you for peace but we give you fair warning: if bloodshed continues, we shall be forced to take severe measures against those responsible for disturbing the peace. Pay attention to our appeal for peace, pay attention to our warning.
